What Women Need to Understand Before Muscle Building
Sep 20, 2011
Many women are under the impression that muscle building requires lifting weights. Women, just like men, have different body compositions. This is important to note because a woman who knows her body composition will be able to choose the right exercises for herself and see better, faster results. Two women weighing the same amount can look completely different. One who weighs 140 pounds and has toned muscles looks much different than a woman at the same weight that has excess fat and poorly defined muscles.
Women who want to tone their muscles and lose excess fat should incorporate some weight training into their exercise programs. To keep from bulking up like men, women should do fewer reps and use lighter weights. Low-intensity trainers can get by with four to six reps. High-intensity trainers need at least seven to eight reps. Another misconception build muscle women need to stay away from, is that lower reps create more mass and higher reps add tone because low reps will produce few results.
